October 22, 1919 — August 28, 2021

Phyllis Imogene “Jean” Clark, age 101 of Beardstown, died Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Heritage Health.

She was born October 22, 1919 in Summum, the daughter of Guy and Nancy Samuel Baumgartner. She married Bernard Clark and he preceded her in death in July of 1980.

She is survived by a daughter Pam (husband Frank) Spurlock of Decatur, her daughter-in-law Cathy Clark of rural Rushville; nine grandchildren Katy, Karey, Kahla, Karly, Diamond, Murphy, RJ, Maycee, and Alyyah; eight great grandchildren Joey, Kayden, Claire, Alena, Joey, Mercedes, Keaton, and Kolten; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons Chris and Terry Clark; and Charles Allen Clark in infancy; and one grandson Hikeem.

Mrs. Clark attended Astoria Schools. She worked at Kroger in Quincy but when she moved to Beardstown, she began a 50+ year career with Bi-Rite Grocery Store and retired from Feigl’s Grocery Store. Jean was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown and WELCA, where she was able to use her joy of sewing to make quilts. She participated in bowling leagues when she was younger and never missed a cup of coffee with her friends at Hardees. Jean was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Her family will be wearing Red in honor of her love not only for the Cardinals but also her family.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown with Reverend Fred Fritz officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Memorials have been suggested to WELCA. Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
