Patricia Ann Toland Brockschmidt, age 91, of Beardstown, died Friday, October 1, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.

She was born May 30, 1930 in Peoria, the daughter of William M. and Velma C. Dodds Toland. She married Edwin F. “Sonny” Brockschmidt on September 13, 1953 at First United Methodist Church in Rushville, and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2004.

She is survived by three daughters Debbie (husband Steve) Radliff of Jacksonville, Becky (husband A.C.) Jones of Beardstown, and Tammy(husband George) Ruthardt of Beardstown; seven grandchildren Casey (wife Andee) Radliff of Bloomington, Josh (wife Laura) Radliff of Jacksonville, Jace (wife Beth) Jones of Beardstown, Mickenzie (husband Josh) Schaver of Beardstown, Brock Jones of Edwardsville, Hannah (fiancé Billy Dawson) Lovekamp of Beardstown, and Rachael (husband Luke) Carmean of Beardstown; 17 great grandchildren Alex, Max, Ryder, Anley, Charlie, Austin, Blake, Carter, Emma, Acen, Liv, Redik, Blalynn, Tatum, Everson, Evonie and Georgie; a sister Mary (husband Harold) Tyson of Beardstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law George Ruthardt, a great granddaughter Penelope Schaver, and a sister Sandy Roegge.

Mrs. Brockschmidt attended Browning Schools through her sophomore year and graduated from Rushville High School in the Class of 1949 with honors. She then attended Western Illinois University for two years majoring in business and finance. Patricia wasn’t afraid to work and started her career working for Rushville Board of Education, she then worked for Illinois Bell in Beardstown. Later in life she was a secretary at Beardstown Junior High School and finished her career retiring from Oscar Mayer in Beardstown.

Pat was baptized in the Methodist Faith and was a confirmed and dedicated member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown. She was an original member of the Beardstown Professional Women (Beardstown Ladies). She had a passion for antiquing with her husband and girls. It wasn’t uncommon for the five of them to take a weekend trip looking for treasures leaving the son in laws behind to watch the kids. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and playing pinochle and bridge. She knew her way around the kitchen and her cooking spoke for itself. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. A void is felt but the memories will continue to live on through those who knew her the best.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, October 3, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the church on Sunday. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
