Lois Jane White, age 101 of Beardstown, died Friday, December 3, 2021 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
She was born October 12, 1920 in Beardstown, the daughter of Edwin B. and Lillian Olga Long Treadway. She married Berlyn Hugh White on October 2, 1943 in Spokane, WA and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2002.
She is survived by one daughter Jill Moore of Champaign; a granddaughter Allison Jeayne Hardwick-Meyer (husband Ted) of John’s Island, SC; a sister Phyllis Taylor of Beardstown; several nieces and nephews; and her neighbor Ruth Ann Wells. Ruth Ann and Phyllis were instrumental in helping Mrs. White which allowed her to stay at home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Edwin B. Treadway, Jr and Clyde Stephen Treadway; three sisters girls Maude Alice Treadway-Swan, Mary Olga Treadway-Herron, and Ellen Ruth “Chris” Treadway-Anderson; and a son-in-law John Nelson Moore.
Mrs. White graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1938. While Berlyn was stationed in Spokane, WA., Lois traveled by train and married him. She worked at Post Exchange “PX” while living in Spokane. Upon returning to Beardstown, she worked at Merrie Shop and later held a long-time career at First State Bank in Beardstown, retiring in her 70’s. She was the oldest living member of First United Methodist in Beardstown, member of Beardstown Emblem Club #474, past participant of Home Extension and Beardstown Houston Memorial Library book club. She had a strong faith and loved her church family. She was a previous Sunday School teacher and involved with women’s circle. Lois always loved being the cashier during the FUMC tearoom. In her free time, she loved cross word puzzles, word searches and quilting.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Mrs. White’s services will also be streaming live at 1 PM Tuesday on the funeral home website.
