Kay Childers

December 25, 1949 — August 9, 2022

Kay Ann Childers, 72 of Beardstown, died Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at her home.

She was born December 25, 1949 in Beardstown, the daughter of Jack and Eleanor Logsdon Kirchner. She married James “Jim” Childers on September 12, 1971 and he survives in Beardstown.

She is also survived by her daughter Carey (husband Jonathon “Jake”) Harris of Athens; her son James (wife Megan) Childers of Beardstown; and four grandchildren Dayton James Childers, Cole Christian Childers, Hayden Marie Childers, and Taven Swan. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kay graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1968. She studied Cosmetology and worked in Springfield for a few years as a hairdresser until she decided to make a career change. Kay began “Kay Ann’s Teddy Bears” and spent nearly 40 years crafting and sewing. She had a knack for finding vintage jewelry and materials to create her master pieces. She and her husband traveled to many different fairs displaying and selling her collectible teddies. In her spare time, she loved spending time outdoors working in her flower garden. She will live on through the lives that she touched but mostly through her devotion to her family.

Per Kay’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice. Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
