Janis Elaine “Jan” Hackman, age 73 of Chicago, died Sunday, March 28, 2021 at her home.

She was born February 29, 1948 in Beardstown, the daughter of Glen E. and Iva M. Large Stock.

She is survived by her mother Iva Stock; a son Troy (wife Melissa) Hackman of Modesto, CA; her granddaughter Andrea Hackman of Chicago; two sisters Christine (husband Gene) Coriell of Pontiac and Debra (husband Robin) Lewis of Beardstown; three brothers Doug Stock of Chicago, Aaron (wife Janelle) Stock of Beardstown, and Jon (wife Becky) Stock of Beardstown; special caregiver and "daughter" Pat Hackman of Chicago; 12 nieces and nephews Gabriel, Elizabeth, Libby, Lucy, Larissa, Jessica, Jarod, Jennifer, Cole, Mackenzie, and Megan; and 12 great nieces and nephews Magda, Jude, Grace, Tristan, Jocelyn, Beckett, Landon, Natalie, Tucker, Bo, Porter and Cecilia. She was preceded in death by her father, her brother-in-law Ronald Stoeckig, and a nephew Andrew (surviving wife Kayla) Stock.

Jan was a graduate of Beardstown High School Class of 1966. Early in her career, she worked for Illinois National Bank in Springfield, IL; after relocating to Chicago, she worked in sales for Dun & Bradstreet Software and most recently retired from the City of Evanston Customer Service Representative for the community development division. Janis was given the yearbook quote “She smiles forevermore”, and will continue to be remembered by family and friends for her beautiful smile.  She was a giving and thoughtful person and no matter where she went, she always made friends, including many cherished and long-lasting friendships. “Live life, keep those you love safe, leave nothing unsaid.”

Private family services will be held with burial in the Beardstown City Cemetery. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
