Jack Hamilton

Jack W. Hamilton, age 85 of Beardstown, passed away surrounded by his four boys, Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born November 17, 1934 in Beardstown, the son of Melvin and Dovie Wilson Hamilton. He married Glenda Alford on January 30, 1955 and she preceded him in death in 1990.

He is survived by four sons Jack A. (wife Gretchen) Hamilton of Vandalia, MO, Scott (wife Debra) Hamilton of Springfield, Gary (wife Dana) Hamilton of Rushville, and Joe (wife Ryan) Hamilton of Chicago; 10 grandchildren Casey, Kristi, and Chad Hamilton, Abby (husband Joe) Fidler, Adam (wife Ana) Hamilton, Holly (husband Andrew) Schmitz, Kyle and Beck Harris, and Carson and Drew Hamilton; five great grandchildren Benjamin, Dexter, Merrick, Ellie, and Scarlett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother Robert Hamilton, and two sisters Betty Hankins and Rosemary Hamilton.

Jack attended Beardstown High School. He worked at Kroger Grocery Store and later, retired from Bohn Aluminum in Beardstown, where he served as the Union President. Jack was one of Beardstown Tigers biggest fans. He coached his sons baseball teams, played softball, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He previously served on Beardstown Tiger Athletic Club and Beardstown Little League Boards, and was a past member of the Beardstown Elks Lodge. Jack enjoyed playing cards and trying his luck at casinos, or could be found fishing at the Beardstown Marina. He will be greatly missed by all.

Private family services will be held with burial in the Beardstown City Cemetery.  Due to the current health situation, an informal visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Friends are encouraged to watch Jack’s services streaming live at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 10, 2020 on the funeral home website at www.colwellmemorialhome.com.
