Doris Spradlin

Doris Ann Kirchner Cagle Spradlin, age 87 of Springfield and formerly of Beardstown, died Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

I, Doris Ann Kirchner Cagle Spradlin was born December 27, 1934 in Beardstown to Howard “Bud” Kirchner and Bertha Caldwell Kirchner who made me go fishing a lot and I never cared for it because it was messy.

I was married to love of my life and kindest man Frances Ray "Bob" Cagle August 28, 1954. He proceeded me in death from a tragic accident on September 14, 1971.

He left me to raise two handsome and rambunctious sons Robert Cagle of Canton, Illinois and Patrick Cagle Beardstown, Illinois and his wife Kelly who I grew to love through the last forty years. Those boys grew up and Bob gave me two wonderful Grandchildren Bryan Cagle (wife Alexis) of Eureka, California, and Hilary Robinson (husband Keagan) of Athens, Illinois. Pat is still growing up. Pat thinks dogs are kids and is currently raising Waylon who is way too messy and sheds. My greatest joy over the last year is my beautiful great granddaughter Lillian Rae Robinson who I was blessed to see turn one in March.

I had one younger sister Mary Beth Gentle who preceded me in death in 2003.  She and I shared a great love of quilting with our mother, leaving too many quilts for our families to deal with. I have one handsome and rambunctious nephew, James Dean Orr of Rushville.

I was blessed with a career at CIPS, later Ameren, of Beardstown. After retirement I enjoyed many rounds of golf and was lucky enough to score a 97-yard hole-in-one at the Shambolee golf course in Petersburg in June of 1998. I used a 5 wood in case you want to try it! If I wasn’t at the golf course or quilt club, I loved to volunteer my time at New Salem serving up drinks in the Old Tavern to guests and checking wood boxes for pesty snakes!

I have lived the last seven years at the Seasons at Pine Creek in Springfield. I have enjoyed playing cards and a lot of social time with many new friends there. I believe I am the last apartment to have the old floor coverings because I hate messes and didn’t want it replaced. I’m sure Zane will enjoy getting that project done. I would like to thank The Zaubi Family and their amazing staff for the wonderful care and all the friends that have helped me through the last years.  Debbie Deopere who takes “care” of all of us senior citizens here at Pine Creek, and threatens to tattle on us when we have things we need to share with our kids, has been like family. She has truly been a blessing to me and to my family for all the love and care she gives to all of us. Thank you.

I asked The Priest when my daughter in law hauled me off to the emergency room if he thought God had room for one more and he assured me he had room for all. I hope to see you all again one day.

I think that’s enough because I am old, tired, and my time has come to an end….and I know people really don't care about this crap.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 9-11 AM Tuesday at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown and process to the cemetery for graveside services.
