Daretta L. Bingham, age 89 of Macomb and formerly of Beardstown, died peacefully with her two daughters by her side, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at LaMoine Assisted Living in Macomb.

She was born February 28, 1931 in Beardstown, the daughter of Garrett and Alice Wise Taylor. She married Herschel Workman on July 3, 1950 and he preceded her in death on September 12, 1989. She later married John E. “Jack” Bingham on March 2, 1991 and he preceded her in death on October 25, 2013.

She is survived by two daughters Kathy (husband Robert) Collison of Fowler and Kay (husband Dave) Utter of Macomb; four grandchildren Rob (wife Maria) Hymes of Beardstown, Carly (fiance Scott Vreeland) Collison of St. Peters, MO, Missi (husband Monty) Osborne of Beardstown, and Kaylee (husband Rafael) Vega of Beardstown; three great grandchildren Samara and Kason Osborne, and Corah Vega; three stepsons John (wife Kim) Bingham, and Dennis (wife Chris) and Don (wife Tami) Coil; seven step grandchildren Joe (wife Jena) Coil, Sam, Morgan, Daniel, and Erik Coil, and Makena and James Bingham; and her cat Myles. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Karen Hymes, and a sister Viola Roberts.

Daretta graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1950. She worked in purchasing and buying for Beardstown Hospital and later for the Internal Revenue Service, before retiring from the Illinois National Guard in 1991. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, Beardstown Emblem Club #474, and the Cass County Art Club, where she had served as President. Daretta was a talented oil painter and piano player. She enjoyed chipping away on the golf course, shopping until she dropped, and pressing her luck at casino’s. Daretta and Jack cherished their time together ballroom dancing and when they wintered in Florida. She could be heard cheering on her grandchildren’s events and for the Chicago Cubs. She was crowned the 2019 Homecoming Queen of Grand Prairie Assisted Living in Macomb. Daretta’s sense of humor was her legacy and she loved family gatherings. She will never be forgotten.
