Clifford Edward Bottens, age 81 of Beardstown, died Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy.
He was born December 22, 1937 in Beardstown, the son of Wilbur and Fern Schertz Bottens. He married Virginia Turner on June 20, 1964. He later married Donna J. Parsano on December 26, 1978 at the Browning Church of Christ and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2017.
He is survived by his daughters Julie (husband Kevin) DeSollar of Rushville, Mary (husband Randy) Carter of Belton, MO, Bobbie (husband Juan) Picornio of Beardstown, and Lisa Bottens of Pflugervile, TX; four grandchildren Andrew (companion Ashley McCabe) DeSollar, Candice Gomez, Dustin (wife Ashley) Allen, and Kaitlyn (husband Jon) Haschemeyer; seven great grandchildren; and two brothers Ronald (wife Joanne) Bottens of Alton and Robert (wife Connie) Bottens of Cambridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna Bottens, a grandson Charlie Carter, and a brother Wayne Bottens.
Mr. Bottens graduated Arenzville High School class of 1955 and later served in the United States Army from 1961-1963.Cliff was a charter member of the Beardstown First Christian Church. He farmed all his life and was also employed by the BNSF Railroad and worked for Bohn Aluminum for 23 years. In his later years he owned and operated Bottens Orchard in Versailles. He loved to stay busy and especially enjoyed collecting Farmall tractors. Most importantly he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at First Christian Church in Beardstown with Pastor Mike Courson officiating. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Monday at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown.
