Tom graduated from Beardstown High School with the Class of 1960 and honorably served his country in the United States Army. He began his career at Bohn Aluminum before working for Oscar Mayer and retired from Cargill in 2006. He was a faithful member of Beardstown First United Methodist Church.

In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and was an accomplished roller skater. During high school, he participated in basketball and track, and was proud to have been a member of Beardstown's very first Little League team and its first All-Star team. His passion for Little League never faded. Tom coached both baseball and softball for many years, mentoring not only his own children but later his grandchildren as well. He also devoted countless hours to maintaining the baseball diamond and built the fence that surrounded the field, leaving a lasting legacy for generations of young athletes.

An avid outdoorsman, Tom loved fishing, making his own fishing lures, and spending time hunting alongside his family. He was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and could often be found making an evening trip to Casey's for his favorite combination-Mountain Dew and a donut.
