Terry Allen “Watty” Watkins, age 68 of Beardstown, died Monday, July 26, 2021 at his home.
He was born January 26, 1953 in Beardstown, the son of Floyd and Elizabeth Robbins Watkins. He married Brenda Anne Knouse on October 16, 1976 and she survives.
He is also survived by his children Tara Lynn Watkins of Beardstown and Michael Joseph Watkins of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren Ethan Lynn and Trenton Watkins; one sister Jean Jones of Beardstown; a brother David (wife Margie) Watkins of Morris; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Stan and Mike Watkins, and a brother-in-law Tom Jones.
Terry attended Beardstown High School until his Junior year when he joined and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his return from the military, he worked at BNSF Railroad and a couple of years later, he began his 36-year career with the City of Beardstown. Terry started out on the garbage routes but quickly dug his way to working on the backhoe, earning the name “The Digger”. He knew value in hard work and was always willing to help whoever and wherever he could.
Terry loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter and found a talent in teaching people how to shoot a bow and arrow. Showing his grandchildren the sport gave him pride, but knowing his wife was a better shot provided a little frustration and a little fun. Terry was known for his cooking and enjoyed sharing his meals and snacks with others.
Terry’s passion was his relationship with The Lord, and his family. He always showed respect for his wife and made personal sacrifices if the need arose. He had a strong faith and throughout his life served as a youth pastor, adult Sunday School teacher, and lead worship. He never left you without saying “Jesus Christ loves you, and so do I”.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, July 30, 2021 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from noon until the time of services at the memorial home on Friday.
