Ted Applegate

March 4, 1937 — November 6, 2025

Beardstown

Ted Alan Applegate, also known as "Amos Trueblood," 88, of Beardstown, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehab.

He was born March 4, 1937, in Beardstown, the son of Alan and LaVerta Applegate. He married Georgia Drum on November 21, 1962, at St. Paul's Cathedral in Springfield, and she survives in Beardstown.

He is also survived by four children, Christina Stoker (Tressy Cobren), Jennifer Milby, Erin Belville, and Anthony Applegate (wife Jana), all of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Michael Stoker (Aaron Hurley), Desiree Stoker, and Haley Lyons (husband Blain); two great-grandchildren, Michael Lyons and Colton Lyons; his sister, Sandra Carls of Beardstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Tom and Terry Applegate, and a brother-in-law, Ronald "Bud" Carls.

Ted graduated from the Beardstown High School Class of 1955 and quickly set out on his own path, first selling insurance in Springfield. He later teamed up with Tom Penwarden at a local full-service gas station, where he became a familiar face by day, while spending his evenings serving with both the Beardstown Police Department and the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

In his younger years, Ted found joy in working on cars, and throughout his life, he was known for his knack for tinkering and fixing just about anything. He was a quiet man, but when he spoke, you listened. He had a wonderful voice, often led the church in prayer, and said "I love you" without needing to say it out loud. Ted waited faithfully for Jesus to take him home.

Graveside Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Beardstown City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Memorials have been suggested to Everest Assisted Living Activity fund or Elara Caring. Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
