Robert Lee “Bob” Simpson, 63 of Beardstown, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born May 27, 1952 in Canton, the son of Lloyd E. and Donna Bellville Simpson. He married Karen Landes on July 6, 1953 in Missouri.
He is survived by his wife Karen Simpson of Beardstown; his son Chad (wife Jamie) Simpson of Murrayville; his mother Donna Thurman of Beardstown; three grandchildren Curtis, Abby, and Ally Simpson; two great grandchildren; and two brothers Larry (wife Susan) Simpson of Chapin and Randy (wife Susan) Simpson of Beardstown.
He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother Ronnie Simpson.
Bob graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1973. He had previously worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and Bohn Aluminum in Beardstown, and later at Westown Ford in Jacksonville. Most recently he worked with his son with Millwright Local 1051. He was a member of Beardstown first Baptist church and Friends of Sanganois. Bob cherished his sobriety and had been a Friend of Bill W since 1976. Many hours of Bob’s life were spent outdoors. He had a passion for hunting, goose or duck, and Bass fishing. His faith in God gave him strength through his illness. Bob loved to joke but most of all he loved his family. He was always there to watch one of Curtis’s ballgames, he was proud of Abby’s accomplishments especially with her schooling, Ally was his “little angel”, and he was honored to be a great grandfather. Recently he had shared with so many that “Love should not be feared but it should be embraced”, which he did daily.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, October 23, 2015 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown with Reverend Brian Kenney officiating. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the memorial home.
Memorials have been suggested to Friends of Sanganois.
