Robert L. "Bob" Robertson, 94 of rural Beardstown, died Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born June 14, 1931 in Springfield, the son of Joseph O. and Lou E. (Theivagt) Robertson. He married Dorothea A. "Dee" Fines on July 30, 1967 at Laurel United Methodist Church in Springfield, and she preceded him in death on December 4, 2015.
He is survived by two sons Dale and Daniel Robertson both of rural Beardstown; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister Helen Ruth Woodrow, and two brothers Joe and William Robertson.
Bob graduated from Beardstown High School in 1949. He worked for contractors during and after high school before joining the United States Navy as a Seabee, where he served honorably during the Korean War. In 1962, he founded Robertson Construction Company and worked in Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois, building levees with the Army Corps of Engineers and the State of Illinois Department of Natural Resources. In his younger years, Bob was a member of Beardstown Jaycees, and currently a member of Cass Lodge #23 A.F. & A.M. He was also deeply involved in First United Methodist Church of Beardstown, where he served as a Trustee and Chairman of the Endowment Committee. Bob developed an early interest in investing by listening to Chicago businessmen and later served on the Board of Directors of First National Bank in Beardstown for 43 years.
Private family services will be held with Reverend Mel Nielsen officiating, with burial in Beard Cemetery. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
