Rachel Jamison

July 27, 1933 — July 18, 2025

Camden

Rachel Genevieve Jamison, 91 of Camden, Illinois, and formerly of Beardstown, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 18 in her home, just nine days short of her 92nd birthday. She was born in Huntsville on July 27, 1933, the youngest daughter of Luther and Mabel Hitz Stolp. She married Clyde Wilbur Jamison on June 8, 1957, in Rushville and he preceded her in death on February 29, 2016. They raised a family and lived happily on the corner of 8th and Jackson Streets in Beardstown for forty years.

Surviving are her children, Teresa (Jay) Little of Frederick, Lisa (Tom) Buhlig of Beardstown, and Marty Jamison of Camden; four grandchildren, Sarah (Dustin) Stambaugh of Camden, Megan (Chris) Zimny of Frederick, Tyler (Megan Evans) Buhlig of Exeter, and Mandi Ratay of Frederick; four great-grandchildren, Natalie and Nathan Stambaugh both of Camden, and Owen and Landon Ratay of Frederick; one sister Lucille Weaver of Macomb; and several nieces and nephews.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers Fred Lee, Olen, and Keith Stolp; two sisters Maxine Carper and Mary Mower, as well as a brother Earl Eugene in infancy.

Rachel graduated from Rushville High School in 1951 at the top of her class. After graduation, she went to work at Farmers Elevator in Rushville until she started a family and became a stay-at-home mom. Clyde was a riverboat captain, gone 21 day and home 21 days, and without complaint or second thought, Rachel kept their household-inside and out-running efficiently. When her children were older, she returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper at Beardstown Savings and Loan, retiring as an Assistant Vice President. She retired in 1985 to provide daycare for her grandchildren.

Rachel was especially close to her sister, Lucille, who she dearly loved like a mother. They shared many life experiences together, including vacations with their spouses, fishing, and frying chicken over a wood fire for the annual family reunion. They spoke on the phone every day.

Rachel was a proficient bowler and a member of the Zinn's Dairy team, representing Beardstown in many women's international Bowling Congress tournaments. She was a talented seamstress-from repairing blue jeans to sewing costumes for her grandkids. Rachel planted a large garden each year and enjoyed canning green beans, tomatoes, pickles, and relish for her family.

Rachel was a fabulous cook. She knew and prepared every family members favorite dish each holiday. She was best known for her delicious pies, homemade noodles, and strawberry freezer preserves. Each Christmas she made a variety of homemade cookies and candies.

In 1995, Clyde and Rachel purchased farmland in rural Camden and started Jamison Farms along with their son.

She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Even though later in life she was unable to attend weekly Sunday church services, her Christian faith remained strong, and she loved the Lord.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown, with Pastor Mike Courson officiating. Burial will follow in Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 10 AM until the time of services on Wednesday at the memorial home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to Beardstown Christian Academy Lunch Program or Culbertson Mobile Meals. Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
