Phyllis E. Anderson

Phyllis E. Anderson, 94, of Beardstown, died Monday, August 3, 2026, at Beardstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born January 16, 1932 in Beardstown , the daughter of Russell G. and Myrtle Spencer Phelps.

She is survived by four children, Stacey Robertson of Apollo, Florida, George Anderson (wife, Lynn) of Alton, Russ Anderson (wife, Julie) of Normal and Gail Anderson of Beardstown; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Shirley Cronin of Beardstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Beth Bailey; three sons, Gary Fortney, Dennis Anderson, and Joe Fortney; one grandson, Spencer Fortney, a sister M. Colleen Burrow; and a brother Dale Phelps.

Phyllis attended Beardstown schools and was a lifelong, faithful member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Beardstown. Her faith was an important part of her life and helped guide the way she cared for others. She was an incredibly hard worker throughout her life, working as a bartender and cooking in area nursing homes. Phyllis loved family gatherings and hosting holiday meals.

Phyllis found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether taking a long drive through the country, settling in with a good book, working on a puzzle, or enjoying a lively game of Shanghai. She was a wonderful cook whose homemade egg noodles were always a family favorite. Phyllis especially treasured gathering around the table, sharing a meal, and spending time with the family and friends she loved.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Beardstown City Cemetery. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
