Patty Lynn Mayes, age 69 of Beardstown, died Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 27, 1953, in Beardstown, the daughter of Walter William and Laura Lucinda Wilcox Pherigo. She married James "Jim" Mayes on November 26, 1976 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown.

She is survived by her husband James "Jim" Mayes of Beardstown; two daughters Angela Lynn (husband Kevin) Mayes Barfield of Jacksonville and Rebecca Dawn (husband Kris) Antle of Missouri; four grandchildren Dalton (wife Jamie) Coil, Desiree Coil, Jenah Heller, and Tayler Sinnock; two great grandchildren Raelynn and Aiden; five sisters Linda Krems, Karen Brewer, Sherry Roope, Debra (husband Roy) Knouse, Judy(husband Mike) Smith; one brother Robert Pherigo; and several nieces and nephews including Billy Lee Armstrong, DJ Pherigo, Travis Pate and Tari Pate, that were not just a niece and nephews to her but whom she cared for like one of her own children. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son James Lawrence Mayes, Jr, three children in infancy, two siblings in infancy John Ray and Betty Joyce Pherigo, and four sisters Sandra Pherigo Park, Nancy Pherigo Stout, Mary Pherigo Armstrong, and Billie Jo Pherigo.

Patty attended Beardstown High School and later obtained her GED. She was employed with St. Lukes Pediatrics in Beardstown and later with the Beardstown School District as a lunch lady, crossing guard, and special education aide. She had a gift to care for others and was a mom to all. Patty enjoyed knitting, vegetable and flower gardening, watching "Golden Girls" and Reconnecting with students on Facebook or scrolling through to read any local gossip. Most of all all her favorite title was Grandma. Spoiling her grandkids was her favorite hobby and she cherished the many trips they were able to travel.
