Melvin D. McGill

Melvin D. McGill, 72 of Beardstown, died Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Beardstown Nursing and Rehabilitation.

He was born February 10, 1954, in Beardstown, the son of Melvin and Joan Simmons McGill.

He is survived by sons Nathan McGill of Sherman and Benjamin McGill of Springfield; the mother of his two sons Rosa Para of Springfield; three sisters Norma Trepal (husband Jon) of Springfield, Zoe Lambert of Beardstown, and Kay Lawson (husband Tom Lawson) of Mason City; one brother Michael McGill of Springfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sharon Sue McGill, and a brother Greenie McGill (surviving wife Cheryl) of Springfield.

Melvin graduated from Beardstown High School in 1972. He worked for the Beardstown School District and later for the City of Beardstown before beginning a 20-year career with the City of Springfield. He started as a traffic warden and retired as a security guard for CWLP. Melvin enjoyed a simple life. He liked listening to rock and roll, watching Westerns, cheering for the Minnesota Vikings, and spending time with crossword puzzles, word searches, and Bingo.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will follow in Oetgen City Cemetery in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the memorial home on Saturday.
