Lewis G. “Louie” McCulley, age 86 of Beardstown, died Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at his home.
He was born December 29, 1934 in Beardstown, the son of Arthur Clark and Alice Elizabeth McClure McCulley. He married Phyllis A. Brewer on December 1, 1950 in Beardstown and she preceded him in death on August 8, 2009.
He is survived by four children Karen L. (husband James) Hatfield of Beardstown, Lewis Paul (wife Cynthia) McCulley of Arenzville, Randy Ray (wife Cheryl) McCulley of Macomb, and Bleu Shawn (fiancé Salena Hicks) McCulley of Beardstown; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters Suzanne Cox and Peggy (surviving husband Robert) Klinedinst, and a daughter-in-law Jennifer McCulley.
Louie attended schools in Fulton County. He honorably served in the United States Army 7th Infantry “Charlie” Company during the Korean Conflict at the Battle of Old Baldy as a M-1 Tailgunner. Upon his return home from the war, he began a career as an ironworker for Springfield Local #46 and retired in 1994. He was a member of Beardstown Elks Lodge ,Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post #1239 of Beardstown, and Arenzville American Legion. Louie enjoyed finding treasures while secondhand shopping. In his younger years he liked playing golf and duck hunting. He was a smooth talker and could bust some moves on the dance floor, and he loved visiting Nashville. He was one of a kind and will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the memorial home on Saturday.
