John Wilcox

John B. “Johnny” Wilcox, 80, of Beardstown, died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at his home surrounded by his wife and family.

He was born August 25, 1935 in Frederick, the son of John W. “Jack” and Cathern Marie Fox Wilcox. He married Sandy Smith on March 1, 1959 in Beardstown.

He is survived by his wife Sandy Wilcox of Beardstown, his children Scott Dale (wife Teresa) Wilcox of Greenville, SC and Cindia (husband Steve) Smith of Beardstown; eight grandchildren, Lora and Jeremy Tangman, David and Abagail Barron, Sarah and Dakota Smith, and Parker and Nicky Wilcox; three great grandchildren Elizabeth “Betsy” Tangman, Lily Barron, and Maddox Cluney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son John Wilcox, and three sisters Rosie Wessel Clements, Betty Bell, and Mary Hymes.

John attended Beardstown High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1954. He later began a railroad career with CB&Q, later BNSF Railroad and retired after 30 years as an Engineer. He was known as “Trader” for his CB handle and enjoyed the art of bargain hunting. Spending time outdoors; fishing or playing horseshoes was always a joy, but the love for his guitars shined. Music and playing guitars was a large part of his life. His greatest joy was being with is family.

The family will be receiving friends at their home on 31 Sunset Drive in Beardstown and there will be a Celebration of Life held from 2-7 PM, Friday, September 11, 2015 at Schmoldt Shelter House. There will be a fish fry and guests are encouraged to bring a side dish and an instrument to join the celebration of life.

Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice.
