John Lewis Fishel, 87 of Rushville, died Friday, January 30, 2026 at his home.
He was born February 4, 1938 in Virginia, the son of Harry Lewis and Emma Viola Beaver Fishel. He married Edith Irene Clark on July 26, 1962 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown.
He is survived by his wife Edith Fishel of Rushville; two sons Richard Fishel and Robert P. (wife Tracy) Fishel both of Rushville; two grandsons Johnathon and Markus Fishel; two step-grandsons Austin Lindsey and Zayden Simpson; a step-granddaughter Ashlea Weideman; three great-grandchildren Mia, Ian, and Nolan Fishel; one step great grandson Daxton Weideman; one sister Carol Jean (husband Tim) O'Hara of Beardstown; and one brother Robert Lee (wife Brenda) Fishel of Beardstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Ann Smith, and a brother LeRoy Fishel.
John graduated with the Class of 1956 from Beardstown High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy. After returning home, he began his career with CIPS, working in Quincy, Carthage, and Augusta for 17 years, followed by two decades in Rushville, where he retired as a lineman in 2000. John and his wife owned T & B Sales in Augusta, where they sold CB radios and flowers. A devoted member of the Beardstown Community of Christ Church, John found joy in tending his vegetable garden, fishing, and trap shooting. With skilled hands and a craftsman's eye, he also made countless hunting knives and tomahawks, each one a testament to his workmanship and pride in doing things well.
Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
