Janet Sue Hale, 76 of Beardstown, died Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
She was born May 7, 1949, the daughter of Bill B. and Rhoda Willerton King. She married Roger Hale on July 6, 1968 and he survives in Beardstown.
She is also survived by two daughters Sherry Rous (husband Brian) of Bloomington and Tari Hale of Beardstown; four grandchildren Robert Coats, and Caitlyn, Ethan, and Lily Rous; a sister Linda Looker of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother in infancy, Robert Michael King, a great-nephew, Cameron Looker, brothers-in-law, Donald Looker, and Royal Hale and a sister-in-law, Holly Hale.
Sue graduated from Beardstown High School in 1967 and later earned an associate's degree from Lincoln Land Community College. Over the years, she owned a daycare and worked at the State of Illinois, the Beardstown Glove Factory, and IGA. She retired from her secretarial role at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, where she was a devoted member, taught catechism, and Sunday school. Sue's faith guided her actions and relationships. She firmly believed in the power of prayer and expressed gratitude for all who prayed for her. Sue loved crocheting and sewing, watching Gunsmoke and Wheel of Fortune, and listening to Elvis. She will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to her faith, and the love she shared with family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 5, 2025 at First Evangelical Church in Beardstown. Burial will follow in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
