James LaMaster

James LeRoy LaMaster, 53, of Beardstown, died Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at his home.

He was born September 2, 1973, in Beardstown, the son of Marion "LeRoy" LaMaster and Beatrice Faye Nave Stinson.

He is survived by his daughter Tristan Kirkham of Macomb; two brothers, Marty LaMaster (wife, Niki) of Astoria and Dennis LaMaster (wife, Corrina) of Beardstown; a bonus daughter, Autumn Lounsberry of Beardstown; his bonus grandchildren, Grayson and Lylah; his cousin and best friend, Brian Hunter of Beardstown; three aunts; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

James attended Beardstown schools before graduating from North Newton High School in Indiana in 1992. Beardstown eventually called him home, and after returning he joined the Army Reserves, proudly serving for four years. At just 19 years old, James began what would become a long career at Cargill Meat Solutions, continuing there through the transition to JBS in Beardstown. He was also a member of Local Union #431.

James had a big heart for animals, and dogs held an especially special place in it. His five dogs-Gecko, Reed, Garcia, Princess, and Mater-were very much part of his family. When he was younger, James enjoyed Kung Fu and spending time at the dojo, something that reflected his interest in strength and discipline. That interest continued through the years with his love of lifting weights. More recently, he had developed an interest in tattoos and enjoyed adding a little more artwork and personality along the way. Rock music was another favorite, and he enjoyed turning up the songs he loved. James was also known for his sweet tooth, with Twizzlers and Mike and Ikes among his favorites. He liked watching football and going to the movies, especially when he could share those outings with family, including one of his most recent trips to the movies with his daughter.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and a visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. There will be no formal services.
