Floyd James "Jim" Spears, 85, of Beardstown, died Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Beardstown Nursing and Rehab.
Born August 6, 1940, in Bluff Springs, he was the son of William E. and Clara G. Simmons Spears. He married Karen Richard on February 14, 1991, and she survives in Beardstown.
He is also survived by three daughters, Rosie Evans of Quincy, Cathy McVey of Abingdon, and Michele Bartels (Josh) of Chandlerville; three sons, Brad Spears (Linda), Steve Spears, and Mark Spears (Debbie), all of Beardstown; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Wessel (Jack); two brothers, Thomas and Jack Spears; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Douglas Spears; and two brothers, William Spears Jr. and Michael Spears.
Jim was a 1958 graduate of Beardstown High School. A talented carpenter and dedicated worker, he spent many years at Bohn Aluminum while also operating his own construction business, S&S Builders. Jim was happiest when he was staying busy and always worked two jobs. He enjoyed spending time fishing, camping, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, and trying his luck on the poker machine. Jim and his wife shared many happy adventures together, traveling, camping, hunting for treasures at flea markets, and selling car parts. He enjoyed life, valued hard work, and made lasting memories with family and friends along the way.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Beardstown. A celebration of life and meal will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, at Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post #1239. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
