Ethel Bailey

Ethel Mae Bailey, age 84 of Beardstown, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

She was born November 23, 1932 in Richview, the daughter of Jack and Ruth Smith Newcomb. She married Robert K. Bailey and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Whitlow of Beardstown; her granddaughters Megan Whitlow of Beardstown, Shelly (husband Jeff) Colin of Pflugerville, TX, Margaret Anne (companion David Stout) of Springfield, and Pamela (husband Cody) Talley of Taylorville; five great grandchildren Natashia, Anna, Summer, Chloe, and Addison; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Terry Robert Hogge, and two sisters Dorothy Russell and Helen Johnson.

Ethel graduated from Richview High School. She ran an “Old Folks Home” as they called back then, in Salem, and then worked as a laborer for Swans in Centralia. She had attended First Southern Baptist Church in Beardstown. Ethel loved her animals, and her cat and dog, Sammy and Zoe, were still there to keep her company. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Friday, November 10, 2017 at Richview Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Memorials have been suggested to Schuyler County Humane Society.
