Erwin C. "Fritz" Krumwiede, 88, of Beardstown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2nd, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, after a lengthy illness.
He was born December 23rd, 1937, to Fred and Marie (Eshleman) Krumwiede in Delrey, Illinois.
He graduated from St. John's Lutheran grade school in Buckley (IL), and Paxton (IL) High School, where he was a three-sport athlete, both the SAR and The American Legion awards winner, and earned a state FFA degree. He went on to graduate in 1961 from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He added a Masters of Education degree from the University of Illinois to his resume' in 1966. He also attended the University of South Dakota and the State University of New York to further his training in school counseling.
He married the love of his life, Shirley Martin, on January 28th, 1961, in Chatsworth, Illinois, and she survives. They spent 67 wonderful years together. He is also survived by his sons, Jeff (Lisa M) of Carrollton, and Tim (Lisa A) of Pittsfield, and a daughter, Dawn CampBell (partner Lloyd Davis) of Waverly, New York. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Josh (Rachel), Tanner (Betsy), Hannah, Meaghann (Michael), Trevor (Lauren), Tristan, and Willow (Brent); 6 great grandchildren, 3 bonus grandchildren, and 11 bonus great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son in law, Troy CampBell.
Following his education, Erwin enjoyed a long career as an educator/counselor. His career took him to Tri-Valley, Melvin-Sibley, Beardstown, Virginia (IL), and Meredosia-Chambersburg. He was a member of the IGPA and the ISCA, where he served as President. He additionally was President of the Beardstown Education Association.
Erwin also proudly served his community as a member of several fraternal organizations, such as the Lions Club, Elks Club, United Way, the United Methodist Men, and the United Methodist administrative board. He was also a Little League coach, as well as a board member and President. Erwin was also a member of the Cass County Mental Health Board.
Erwin loved to spend his free time hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, antiquing, flea marketing, and playing cards. He also enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Erwin was known for his friendly demeanor, integrity, selflessness, and loyalty.
Most importantly, he had a great faith in God, and a deep love of family, friends, and country.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 7th from 4-7 PM at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, July 8th, at the First United Methodist Church of Beardstown at 10AM, with burial in the Beardstown City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Beardstown Lions, Beardstown Elks, or Matthew 25 Shelter.
