Elizabeth Hicks

Elizabeth Ann "Lizzie" (Coats) Hicks, of Beardstown, passed away on June 7, 2026, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

She was born on August 2, 1958, in Beardstown, the daughter of Herbert Lee Sr. and Patricia Ann (Bailey) Coats.

Lizzie is survived by her sons, Lester Curtis "Bubba" Coats of Iowa and Cody Dale Larson of Pennsylvania; her granddaughter, Bella Larson of Iowa; her grandsons, Brantley and Braden Larson of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Vicky Louise (Lauder) Hosey of Jacksonville and Denise Dianne "Dede" Behymer of Beardstown; two brothers, Herbert Coats Jr. of Beardstown and Terry "Jake" Coats of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Paula Jo Lipcaman and Toni Gale Bauser; her husband, Junior Leon "J.R." Hicks; her twin sons, Andy Ray and Randy Lee Coats; and a special friend, John Strubel.

Lizzie enjoyed reading, especially the Chicken Soup series, feeding and watching birds, and riding her bicycle. She was known for her kind and generous spirit, always looking out for her neighbors and standing up for others when needed. Above all, Lizzie had a giving heart and will be remembered for the compassion and friendship she shared with those around her.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
