August 24, 1950 — January 8, 2026

Beardstown

Edwin "Butch" Cletus Hobrock, 75, of Beardstown, died Thursday, January 8, 2026, at his home.

He was born August 24, 1950, in Jacksonville, the son of Cleo Eugene and Anna Marie Brannan Hobrock. He married Cindy Brown on September 4, 1971, and she survives in Beardstown.

He is also survived by three sons, Doug Hobrock (wife, Suzanne) of Beardstown, Mark Hobrock (wife, Katie) of Leawood, KS, and Brad Hobrock (wife, Jamie) of Beardstown; six grandchildren, Caleb, Carley, Lakin, Gage, Harper, and Palmer; two sisters, Jeannie Sinclair of Harrisburg, VA, and Judy McMurl of Beardstown; one brother, Joe Hobrock (wife, Chris) of Beardstown; and six nephews, Bobbie Joe, Chris, Brian, Brett, Scott, and Donnie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bradley Michael Hobrock; a niece, Ericka Nicole McMurl; and two brothers-in-law, Carroll Sinclair and Paul McMurl.

Butch graduated from Beardstown High School, Class of 1968, and later earned his diesel technician degree from Spoon River College. He honorably served his country in the United States Army Air National Guard during the Vietnam Era from 1969 to 1975. He was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown.

A lifelong Cass County farmer, Butch balanced farming with full-time work for many years, including employment with the railroad, Arthur Ring and Sons, and Oscar Mayer, before eventually farming full time. He was the owner of Muscooten Bay Outfitters and a member of the Western Illinois Tractor Club and the Beardstown Game Club, where he helped raise and release quail. He was also a member of the Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007, a founding member of the Cass County Prospect Pig Sale, served on the Cass County Zoning Board, and was Drainage Commissioner for Hager Slough and Lost Creek.

Butch took great pride in restoring International tractors and most recently had been working on a 1967 Chevy II Nova. Material things meant little to him-his family, children, and grandchildren meant everything.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown. Burial will follow in St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Butch was a casual man and would want everyone to be comfortable, so casual attire is welcomed.

Memorials have been suggested to the Cass County Fair Association or St. Alexius Catholic Church. Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
