Edgar W. Kirkham, 89, of Beardstown, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, January 10th, 2016 at home.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1926 in Bainbridge Township, Schuyler County, Illinois, the son of Ephraim B. and Irene F. (Newingham) Kirkham. He married Joan Bishop on April 8, 1952 in Beardstown.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Joan Kirkham. He is also survived by his son Allen (wife Jill) Kirkham of Custer, SD; two granddaughters Megan (husband Austin) Brummer of Rapid City, SD and Andrea Kirkham of Virginia Beach, VA; two great-grandchildren Josephine and Solomon Brummer: brother John Kirkham of Jacksonville: sisters Sara Kruse of Beardstown, Glenna Little of North Fort Myers, FL, Vada Downs of Rushville, and Zelda Bishop of Lockport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Gladys Utter and Letha Dupoy, and six brothers Roy, Robert, Verlin (Bud), Henry, Ephraim and Desmond Kirkham.
Edgar attended Joliet Junior College and received a Welders Certificate with which he secured a position with Lemont Shipbuilding & Repair in Lemont, IL. He retired as a first class welder fitter in 1989. He loved to travel with his wife. They visited all 50 US states, Mexico, Australia and several provinces in Canada.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, January 14th at 11 AM at First Christian Church in Beardstown with Pastors Mike Courson and Rob Kirkham officiating. Visitation will be from 9- 11:00 am Thursday, January 14th at First Christian Church Beardstown prior to the Celebration Service. Interment will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Beardstown Christian Academy for the school’s expansion project.
