Eddie Joe “Duke” Walters, age 65 of Beardstown, died Monday, August 1, 2016 at his home.
He was born June 5, 1951 in Beardstown, the son of Edwin “Tuck” and Peggy Brooks Walters.
He is survived by his daughter Amy Marcin of Pontiac; his granddaughters Alexa and Aria Hittle, and Jasmine Marcin all of Pontiac; two brothers Bob “Buckwheat” (wife Nancie) Walters of Beardstown, and Greg “Bo” (wife Carla) Walters of Lake of the Ozarks; one sister Jackie Bresnahan of Beardstown; several nieces and nephews and his Dachsund Si.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his companion Barb Arenz.
Duke graduated from Beardstown High School class of 1969. He started his career working for Meyer Superette cutting meat until getting drafted in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning home he began his 40+ year career with Oscar Mayer retiring from Cargill June 2015 as the UFCW local union representative. Duke had a love for fishing, boating and golfing. He was a member of the Tuesday morning senior golf league and the Elks Lodge #1007. Every morning Duke could be found enjoying his coffee with friends at the Elks. He was honored to be a part of Beardstown Tiger football’s “chain gang”. Duke had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. His daughter and granddaughters where his life and he will be dearly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday, August 5, 2016 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in Herche Cemetery in Wood Stock Township near Ripley. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Thursday at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown.
Memorials have been suggested to Duke’s Granddaughter’s Education Fund.
