Donald Richard Walker, Sr., age 88 of Beardstown, died Friday, August 3, 2018 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

He was born July 25, 1930 in Schuyler County, the son of Charles and Ruth Eckroy Walker. He married Wanda Nortrup on March 2, 1952 in Meredosia.

He is survived by his wife Wanda Walker of Beardstown, six children Richard (wife Sue) Walker of Waukegan, Vicky (husband Leigh) Lamb of Frederick, James (wife Joi) Walker of Channahon, David (wife Patty) Walker of Yorkville, Tammy (husband Brian) Blair of Mt. Sterling, and Gerald “Jerry” (wife Julie) Walker of Detroit, MI; sixteen grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one sister Janet (husband Joe) Simpson of Littleton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Stanley Walker; and two nieces Terri Dawn Houston and Jessica Mae Houston.

Don attended Schuyler County Schools. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Don managed the Imperial Gas Stations, was a farmhand for Scheer Farms in Beardstown, and was an ambulance driver and a volunteer fireman for Beardstown Fire and Ambulance. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, he cherished his family, and he never missed his grandchildren’s activities.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will follow in the Beardstown City Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post #1239 of Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 10 AM until the time of services at the memorial home on Wednesday. A meal will be held at the Beardstown Elks Lodge following the burial.
