David Lee Krohe, 62, of Beardstown, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 7, 2026, surrounded by his family, following a courageous seven-year battle with colon cancer.
He was born July 24, 1964, in Beardstown, the son of Richard and Frances Ruth Perrine Krohe. He married Cynthia Bryant on August 27, 2021, at Schuy-Rush Park, and she survives in Beardstown.
He is also survived by his daughter, Abby Krohe (companion Yadday Cortez) of Beardstown; two stepchildren, Leah Adams (husband Kyle) of Rushville and Steven Reither of Beardstown; his brother, Jim Krohe (wife Donna) of Texas; his niece and nephew, Jennifer Alspach (husband Ryan) and Justin Krohe (wife Monica); four great-nephews; and one great-niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Natalie Krohe.
David graduated from Beardstown High School with the Class of 1982. Early in his working career, he was employed at Cass Veterinary Clinic, a fitting role for someone who had such a love for animals. He later went on to enjoy a 28-year career with Cargill Grain in Beardstown, leaving his position in 2020 following his diagnosis. David was a member of the Beardstown Elks Lodge and faithfully attended Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. His love for animals continued throughout his life, especially through the companionship of his beloved cats, Ozzie and Junie.
David was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan who had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially spending time boating on the river, the only thing that could keep him away was rain. Above all, David loved his family and treasured the time he spent with those closest to him. Whether gathered together at home, sharing a day outdoors, or simply enjoying each other's company, his family was always at the heart of his life. His daughter, Abby, was his pride and joy, and the two shared many special memories together, including countless bike rides they both treasured.
Cremation rites have been accorded and the family will meet with friends from 3-6 PM Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. A reception will follow at Beardstown Elks Lodge. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice, Schuyler County Humane Society, Cass County Animal Rescue, or Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
