David B. Coufal

November 20, 1951 — March 11, 2024

David B. Coufal, 72, of Browning, died Monday, March 11, 2024.

He was born November 20, 1951, in Jacksonville, the son of Harry J. and Evelyn Lucille Eads Coufal. He married Debra Unger on March 20, 1985, and she survives in Browning.

He is also survived by his children Casey (companion Rick Pierce) Hamilton of Broken Arrow, OK, Kristine (companion Renee Perales) Hamilton of Jacksonville, and David (wife Erica) Coufal of Browning; five grandchildren Josh (wife Larissa) Cowden, and Cali, Fulton, Emmit, and Bryant Coufal; three great-grandchildren Emilyn and Taralyn Cowden and Haidin Keller; two brothers Mike (wife Marjorie) Coufal and Marc (wife Penny) Coufal; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Terri Lyn Coufal Cowden, and a brother, Donald (surviving wife Martha) Coufal.

David graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1969. He was self-employed for most of his life. He was a commercial fisherman working on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers, a Logger, and drove a semi-truck. David had a thrill for drag racing and was a member of Nostalgic Gassers. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. David had a sweet spot for all dogs and adopted many over the years. His greatest joy was his family; he made it a mission to attend all the grandkid's activities. He will forever be known as a Husband, Dad, and Papa Dave. All those who knew and loved him the most will feel a lasting void.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been suggested to David Coufal Memorial which can be sent to any West Central Bank or Colwell Memorial Home. Condolences may be left online at or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
