David Chambers

August 10, 1951 — January 29, 2025

Bluff Springs

David Roy Chambers age 73, of Bluff Springs, died in his home on Wednesday January 29th 2025.

He was born on August 10th 1951 in Beardstown, Illinois to Charles and Hazel Chambers.

He is survived by his daughter, Kerry (husband Aaron) Slater of Beardstown. His companion of thirty years, Nancy Giovannini of Bluff Springs, and children Rachel Carlock (husband Cole) and Marc Giovannini (wife Griffin). Seven grandchildren- Olivia Slater, Sydney Laws (companion Kerby Fortner), Chloe Slater, Mallory Smedly, Gus Carlock, Tessa Giovannini and Zoey Giovannini. Two brothers- John (wife Kay) Chambers and Michael (wife Valerie) Chambers both of Bluff Springs. His niece and nephew- Victoria (husband John) Reed of Canton and Brian Chambers (fiancé Skylar Bennett and their son Evren) of Bluff Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Tracey Laws and grandson Cole Laws.

Dave graduated from Beardstown High School in the Class of 1969. He started working at the Oscar Mayer factory in Beardstown after graduation but didn't stay long. He got a job at the Bluff Springs Farmers Elevator, working various roles, till he retired after thirty years. Even after retiring he stayed busy, working the family farm and garden with his brothers.

He spent almost every Saturday at auctions buying what he called "good junk". He was a avid collector of railroad lanterns, pocket knives, and coins to name a few. Dave loved to tinker and work with his hands. He was a jack of all trades. It didn't matter if it was a tractor, a motor, pouring concrete or perfecting the miter cut, the odds were that Dave knew exactly how to do the job right. He was endlessly patient, and he could be counted on to help with the projects of the people around him. He loved teasing and playing with whatever kid happened to be around at the time. Even when he yelled "Hey!" (all the kids knew they best stop whatever it was they were doing) he couldn't help but rile them up in the next moment. Dave was a good sport, and allowed Nancy to dress him up every Halloween. He enjoyed sitting in his recliner watching Gun Smoke and The Curse of Oak Island, and just "resting his eyes" for a moment. Nancy and his family will forever miss hearing his Taglines: "You about ready?" and "Let's go Nancy."
