Charlotte Jean Sample, age 81 of Beardstown, died surrounded by her family, Wednesday morning, March 23, 2016 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.
She was born January 1, 1935 in Chapin, the daughter of James Earl and Mary Ruth Smith Fountain. She married Robert Lee Sample on April 17, 1954 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1990.
She is survived by her daughter Carol (husband Bill) Robeson of Beardstown; three grandchildren Jenna (husband Levi) Vermillion, Kelly (companion Nic Warden) Robeson, and Ross Robeson; one great granddaughter Lydia Vermillion; a close family friend and caregiver Ronda Large; her constant companion Phoebe; her sister-in-law Virginia Billings; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Kathryn Elaine Sample in infancy, a sister and brother-in-law Maggie and John Sanstra, and her brother Jim Fountain.
Charlotte graduated from Jacksonville High School. She worked and retired after 30 years from the First National Bank in Beardstown. She was a devoted and active member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, serving in any area needed. Charlotte was a friend and care giver to many. She enjoyed baking and leaving treats for her friends around the community, when they provided her with a helping hand. Charlotte cherished life and her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, March 26, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown with Reverend Robert Schoolcraft officiating. Burial will be in Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will meet with friends from 4-7 PM Friday at the First United Methodist Church.
Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice or Ronald McDonald House in Springfield.
