He graduated from Beardstown High School in 1957, where he participated in all sports and developed a lifelong passion for both playing and watching them. He also had a deep love for music, playing in the band during his school years and continuing to enjoy music throughout his life.
In his youth, Charles worked for Zinn's Dairy before becoming a lifelong farmer in Cass County. He loved good food, coached Little League, and bowled for over 20 years. With his dear friend Tom, he visited nursing homes to share music by playing guitar for residents. Being named Co-Grand Marshal of the Fall Fun Festival with Tom was one of his proudest moments.
Charles, a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed attending and supporting local sporting events. Serving wherever possible and striving to be a beacon of faith, he valued his relationship with God above all.
