Charles Bailey, Jr

Charles D. Bailey, Jr. 71 of Beardstown died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at his home.

He was born July 20, 1953 in Beardstown the son of Charles and Imogene Shinall Bailey. He married Linda Pickering and she preceeded him in death on June 18, 2020. He later married Denise Khoni Kipwibi on May 21, 2022 and she survives in Beardstown.

Charlie is also survived by two stepsons, Joe (wife Ricki) Walters of Chandlerville and Christopher (companion Rhonda Frank) Wilson of Rushville; six stepgrandchildren, Andrea Snyder, Bradley, Hunter, and Cooper Walters, and Rebecca and Donna Wilson; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Piper and Owen. He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, stepfather Shorty Jones, and sister Carolyn.

Charlie, a graduate of Triopia High School, was a man of many passions. His work at the Illinois Glove Factory for the City of Beardstown and the Prairie Council on Aging Beardstown Bread of Love program was a testament to his dedication. He loved guns and recreational shooting, but his greatest joy was working with his wife in their vegetable garden, raising sweet potato leaves for African cuisine. He inherited his grandpa's handler name, Uncle Jessie, as a ham radio operator. His faith, as a member of Beardstown First Southern Baptist Church, was a source of peace and strength. His wife, friends, and church family will deeply feel his absence, but they will also remember the love and faith that he shared with them.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday August 24, 2024 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the memorial home. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery.
