Allen Schaeffer

Edward Allen Schaeffer, 68 of Beardstown, died, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born August 9, 1947 in Beardstown, the son of Edward “Pete” and Shirley Stith Schaeffer. He married Sharon Deacon on June 6, 1966 at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Schaeffer of Beardstown; two daughters Penny Sue (husband Doug) Smith of Wyoming and Laura (husband Mike) Seaman of Beardstown; seven grandchildren Kynli, Cooper, Sarah, Natalie, Drake, Rachel, and Alayna; one great granddaughter Alyvia; and three sisters Joann (husband Frank) Tackett of Kentucky, Carolyn Schaeffer of Beardstown, and Nancy (husband Paul) Fisher of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Fritz Genseal, and a sister Marilyn Schaeffer.

Allen graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1965. He worked at Case International in Canton until it closed, and then was Director of Building, Grounds, and Transportation for the Beardstown School District until he retired in 2010. He cherished the time he spent working at the School. He was a member of Beardstown Elks Club, Beardstown Lions Club, and the Beardstown Fire Department. Allen was always just a phone call away. He loved helping anyone through any situation. His friends and family could guarantee if they had not heard from Allen the phone would be ringing shortly. He loved his friendships but most of all adored spending time with his girls and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Friday at Colwell Memorial Home.

Memorials have been suggested to Beardstown Elks Club, Beardstown Rescue Squad. and Beardstown Lions Club.
